So the name came from an Instagram poll? Were you guys satisfied with the winning name!?
Haha we might have been a bit dubious at the beginning but we’ve settled into it now. I think I was relatively happy because the other option was also dreadful.
How did the band come together? Was there any music that made you guys come together?
It was more sort of just a common interest in making music. We all love the Arctic Monkeys but I think everyone who has picked up a guitar is the same. We just all bonded over the process of playing and making music.
‘Fraud’ is such a good debut single! How was that song written? It seems like it’s about change in life?
Yeah we write songs in a few different ways but this one was just kind of splurged out pretty quickly. The verses are kind of a heavy, carefree nightout and the pre-chorus and chorus are kind of acknowledging that it might be time to reluctantly grow up a bit.
Also it’s very Vaccines, are they influences for you?
Yeah Vaccines are big for me. The other lads like them but I’m pretty obsessed with that latest album, so thanks for the comparison haha.
How does the writing process work in the band? Is it a collective effort or does someone come in with a solid idea?
With Fraud I just wrote it on an acoustic guitar and with our new single Nathan (guitarist) wrote the music and structured the song and I put the lyrics in over the top. Those are the two main ways we put songs together although a newer one we’ve been messing around with our bassist showed us up and wrote the guitar riff.
How was performing live together at first? Has there been any memorable moments so far and funny tales to tell from them?
It was good man, we are just a pretty new band and our busiest gigging schedule should have been the past few months when we’ve been unable to. Our last gig I introduced the wrong song and when I looked at my setlist I looked at another band and was completely confused. The gig before that we tried to play a new song and Nico (drummer) forgot the beat and had to go with it and improvise. Hopefully in a few months when we do another interview we have some funnier tales.
I hope you guys have been all safe! What’s it been like during COVID for the band?
It’s been quite shite not being able to practice, but creatively it’s been pretty good to be honest. We all have basic home recording set ups now and I’ve written the most songs I ever have. It hasn’t been ideal but other people have had it a lot worse.
Any chance of another single soon? Will it be similar with ‘Fraud’ in terms of it sound, lyrics etc?
So after this weeks release, we are hoping to get another song done this year and actually record it in a studio this time. If we can get in the studio and do a few tunes it could even more than one.
Lyrically it’s funny, because covid has pushed everything back so we are recording songs that were written 9 months to a year ago. I think the next few releases will be lyrically in a similar vain to Fraud as they were written at similar times but when we get to singles 4 and 5 you might see a shift.
What albums have you been listening to during the last few months? Name us some albums that has helped you guys during this difficult time!
I was listening to a lot of The Velvet Underground/Joy Division at the start and now I’ve been leaning more towards releases by Glasgow bands. Declan Welsh has been smashing it recently. I know Craig was listening to a lot of Blur around the time we recorded 12 Month. Nico is a big pop-punk fan but recently I’ve got him into a band called The Mysternies so maybe that’s changing. I believe Nathan has also recently just got hooked on FEET - great band with a terrible name, bit like us eh.
