Dreamlands EP- Daydream Runaways: The Land On This EP Shows Off The Potential This Band Has

Updated: Dec 29, 2020

The 4-piece band from Wiltshire have released their debut EP that is filled with some lovely nods to the biggest inspirations in the indie world, yet still ensuring they are creating and moulding their own sound. The lead up to this release has been filled with solid singles and the three songs on offer on 'Dreamlands', are honestly delightful.

Opener ‘Fairytale Scene’ starts with a punch and an actual laugh! The ‘ahhhhsss’ arrive and some really solid vocals guide us through this classic indie track, it may of been of been influenced by Pigeon Detectives which Im totally enjoying. The guitar work by both lead and rhythm are top notch and they suddenly become a ‘Whatever People Say I Am’ spin during the bridge, its a great turn of events!

‘Light the Spark’ has a very classic sound, with a nice melody in the verses and then a staple 00’s pre chorus arrives, what a throwback! The chorus is so fascinating as both the melody and percussion feels like it would fit as a Lennon cut in the Hard Day’s Night/Help! era. Returning back to the 00’s, the laser like synth brought a smile to my face as it feels like I should be bluetoothing this song to a mate on the school bus back in 2007.

The big single for these guys closes matters, ‘Crazy Stupid Love’, it feels like home but yet still refreshing. Yes, you could be humming Razorlight later on today but hey these guys have taken their influences to write a top quality alt rock song that stands out in the indie community. Also I found the chorus reminding me of Springsteen, even the slight chimes that are found in the lead up to the finish. The last chorus and ‘lets go!’ make your head rock, the song is truly awesome and it shows off how talented Daydream Runaways are.
