Fiery spirt, togetherness and catchy hooks can be found on Cruel Hearts Club's first EP release.
Cruel Hearts Club are a formidable trio that have been kicking up the gears over the last two years, releasing catchy guitar music and rocking out with some big names. After releasing some head bangers during 2020 and began working with Carl Barât, the band have released an EP that is truly kick arse and impressive. Gita, Gabi and Edie know how to make rock music feel alive, lets's hope they can use the momentum they have created to show even more people how to rock.
The fun spirt found on the opening cut, ‘Sink This Love’, is incredibly infectious and plentiful, it feels so crisp and energised to the max. Cruel Hearts Club offer us this mega bluesy riff and fill out the rest of the song with a rather catchy hook, with some ‘lah lah lah’s’ for good measure too. The stingy nature of the song also gives the bands playful and punky nature an awesome twist, giving the girls a sinister element that is hard not to ignore.
‘In need of a messiah’ is cried out during the first verse on ‘Animal’, which gives some classic rock’n’roll traits a slight disco dusting. What is great about this band, is that you can feel how much all three members love playing together and are revelling in what the band are aiming to achieve. Yes, it can be easy to let the fun do all the talking but this trio still show us the intent and talent they all have.
Next we have ‘Dirty Rotten Scum’, which keeps getting better and better as time passes; the togetherness and angst to the track is both relatable and so energising. The group brings everyone together to sing about being with the people you love and not caring how scummy or pathetic we can all be, it is for sure a lighter and not a iPhone torch moment!
Just when you think this punkish slow burner gives you enough, the band go for it with an amazing chorus that features some nicely played strings and choral like singing. Here we can see the potential in the bands songwriting, the melody is impressive and the sentimental lyrics are nowhere feeling cliched in anyway.
Recorded live at The Albion Rooms in Margate, the sisters within the group (Gita and Edie) sing together with such passion, on ‘Where Has The Summer Gone’. It was a smart move capturing the take live, it concludes the outing in really fine form. This debut EP is for sure impressive and shows signs that Cruel Hearts Club are incredibly fun and talented band, Im sure many cant wait to see what they waiting for us next.
