This album is definitely a nod to what has come before but with definite quality. Alex Gaskarth had penned down some of the tracks when going through seasonal depression and offers some relatable lyrics, overall this album will go down well with fans.
The record opens so well with ‘Some Kind of Disaster’ (can hear a crowd singing this back) and ‘Sleeping In’ is a delight of a funk rhythm meets All Time Low’s sound. ‘Getway Green’ has a great guitar sound and I can imagine a Slam Dunk crowd loving this track. ‘Monsters’ is a collaboration with blackbear and it does feel like a lazy feature song. Closer track ‘Basement Noise’ gets rather repetitive and after hearing the song for 30 seconds you get what’s it’s about.
The second half doesn’t meet the promise of the first, it just becomes what you expect from this genre and era, which doesn’t offer much new. Nevertheless it is definitely an enjoyable record despite this not being my type of thing.
