Zuzu's passion and drive has been one of the biggest success stories so far in 2020, gaining praise and a loyal fan base for the honesty and catchiness you find in her music. The artist has been around the music industry and has learnt a lot on her journey, all leading to the release of her debut EP 'How It Feels', that contained singles that many have been enjoying over the last year or so.

The DIY attitude Zuzu has with her music, acoustic performances and merchandise feels so personable that it has led to the creation of a following that really appreciates and adores her. The artist has embraced social media in a positive way which really inspires hope and good will, the success of the music is definitely well deserved. With regards to the music, the indie pop nature and slight punk attitude leaves you humming away for hours songs like 'Get Off' and 'What You Want'. The Scouse artist is now focusing on her next chapter, writing for some really cool things and it was great having a small chat with her!

So what’s been happening the last few weeks? I hope you and everyone around you have been safe and well!

We’ve been good! Just been writing and recording a bunch. Hanging out with my cats a lot more than normal so that’s been cool.

Your love for Sci-Fi inspires you so much! How do you incorporate it into your music and what does it represent to you for being a big part of your creativity?

I do love sci-fi!  I guess i write about it quite a bit in my lyrics. Not always intentionally, I think because i read and watch so much of it it just happens naturally. I did buy a theremin though, I love those old 50’s and 60’s movie soundtracks.

What was it first like entering the music industry at 16 years old, what key things have you learnt from those early experiences?

I was actually 14! It was weird to be honest. Looking back I probably should have just been in a band with my friends at that age but I did learn so much. I learned how to write songs and more importantly how to stand up for myself. Took me a minute though haha.

‘Made on Earth By Humans’ was your debut EP that came out in 2018, how does it feel looking back at those songs now?

I feel really proud of them. We recorded them in our basement and they are still probably my favourite songs I’ve put out.

‘All Good’ really stood out from it, how was that written?

I don’t really remember the details but  I know Kurran started played the chords and I just wrote it dead fast. I say “All Good” all the time so I’d been wanting to use it in a song for ages.

Obviously the music is the stand out but your appreciation for your fans is another thing that does! How important is it for you to keep such a personal touch to your merchandise and engagement with fans?

It’s so important to me. They mean the world to me. I feel like the least I can do is show them some love back for all the love they show me. It’s been amazing to be able to connect with them on a personal level. I’ve felt quite lost at times during COVID and lockdown but they’ve kept me full of joy.

When writing ‘Get Off’ did you have a feeling that this song could do as well as it has? The chorus can’t ‘get off’ my mind (apologies for the awful pun)!

Haha I can’t actually remember this really well. I was convinced this chorus melody was from something else. I was going round everyone asking them if I had subconsciously copied it. But it’s been out for years now so I’m confident it isn’t ripped haha.

It felt like the release of the ‘How It Feels’ EP was a big moment! The whole body of work came across as a real inside into your creative mind, how was the whole experience writing and recording it?

It was a weird one really because I didn’t know when I was recording them that would end up as an E.P. I recorded them with a few different people in a few different places so the experience changed with each song. I had so much fun and wonderful memories attached to the songs on ‘How It Feels’ so I’m glad you felt like you were getting an insight on that when listening!

The hook for ‘What You Want’ is awesome! How do you find the reaction of the songs and what do you want your listeners to take away from them?

Thank you! I just want people to feel something. I love when people tell me what the song has meant to them. They could be in a completely different situation than I was in when writing it but they connect to it in their way. I love that about music. It can mean different things to different people.

Many girls will see you as an important figure in their lives and someone they can really look up to. Not just only in terms of your experience within music, but what advice would you give to young woman right now?

Aww that’s really nice of you to say! I’m not one to want to give advice as I don’t feel like I know what I’m doing myself half the time haha. I guess just work hard and believe in yourself.

How’s it been for you during COVID and lockdown? Have you been able to be write/record or been able to purse other things due to the more time on our hands?

It’s been okay! We are really lucky to record at home mostly anyway so it’s been super productive for music. We’ve written two songs for Adventuretime which are due to come out soon! I’ve been writing a lot of letters to listeners, I’ve got over 80 pen pals!

What feeling do you have for live music next year? I bet there’s so much eagerness to be singing and rocking out on stage again!

It can’t come quick enough, I miss my band. Especially my bassist Julia! She’s been in Australia this whole time!

For 2021...how would you describe, in one sentence, what we could expect from the Zuzu world next year?

Expect new music!!!!!
