Adele at SNL: A Recap and Review Of The Lady We All Miss On Her Hosting Debut

credit: Saturday Night Live (NBC)

It seems that Adele’s impressive resume continues to grow as the famous household name hosted Saturday Night Live (SNL) on Oct. 24. Adele is a Tottenham born, English singer-songwriter and has secured three albums under her belt — each famously entitled as numbers — filled with heartfelt and empowering lyrics which simultaneously express the singer’s vulnerability and heartache. Alongside the release of three albums, Adele has completed touring, written and performed the theme tune for James Bond’s, ‘Skyfall,’ performed at the Brit Awards, won numerous awards, and even secured a headline spot at Glastonbury in 2016. In 2008, Adele featured on SNL, performing “Chasing Pavements,” and “Cold Shoulder,” which in turn increased the success of her debut album, “19,” which topped the iTunes charts. The album also jumped 35 places to reach number 11 on the Billboard 200. So it’s no surprise that she returned to host the show!

She joked about her recent weight loss which has made headlines; “I know I look really, really different since you last saw me. But actually, because of all the Covid restrictions, I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me. And this is the half I chose.” The show continued with sketches including Madame Vivelda, Visiting Grandma, Africa Tourism, Chad In A Haunted Mansion, and Ass Angel Jeans. Featuring alongside Adele was Pete Davidson, Chris Redd, Ego Nwodim, and Maya Rudolph. However, perhaps the most anticipated sketch of the evening was a spoof of the reality TV show, ‘The Bachelor.’

Adele referenced the titles of her three albums by stating in her introduction, “I’m here because I've had a lot of heartbreak in my life. First at 19 and then, sort of famously at 21, and then even more famously at 25.” During the sketch, Adele continued to break out into some of her most well-known and loved songs including, ‘Rolling in the Deep” and “Hello.” She finished with, “Someone Like You,” before shouting, “Catch me next week on Love Island.” Adele also hinted at her next album although claimed, “my album’s not finished.” With a fourth album on the way and successful achievements throughout her career, what’s next for the singer (and more importantly, when are we getting the album)?!
