2021 has brought us some amazing records already, ranging from Black Country New Road to Wolf Alice to Royal Blood and Girl In Red. However, it’s still not hard to be looking ahead and wondering, when is this artist going to follow up on that album I loved so much? Even pondering will said act bounce back after that bad set of releases from the other year? Rumours fly around non stop, so let's have a think about the songwriters and acts that are hopefully releasing some new music, very soon.

The songwriter felt like one of the last indie acts to truly impact the singles charts here in the UK, the man really pumped out hit after hit during his first few albums. Even with 2016’s ‘Tricks’, there was still his classic style and lyrics within songs like ‘Power Over Men’ and ‘Tescoland’; yet it has been over 5 years since we last heard something generally new from him. He captured the hearts of many young millennials and the first slither of Generation Z by being incredibly relatable and sincere with his delivery to them, you really feel like we need him once more. We hope he has a lot to say after these years of being silent and if its being said over yet another great hook, we will sure be in for a treat.
Kendrick Lamar

Some regard this rapper as one of the greatest artists of this century and if the man can deliver once more, that claim will become a universal truth. Kendrick released an iconic and significant LP with ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ and rocked the charts with his 2017 LP called ‘DAMN.’, which included the hits ‘Humble’ and ‘DNA’. There is a lot of hype naturally for his next album and you can’t blame him for taking his time, however I just want to know now what he has in store for us. Many will expect and hope he will touch on the Black Lives Matter protests from last year, however could he end up repeating himself if he does what those fractions want? Regardless, Kendrick Lamar is a creator that many should take the time to listen to and this 4th studio album, could cement him as one of the all time greats.
Stella Donnelly

Hailing from Western Australia, this singer-songwriter turned heads with her highly impressive debut EP and then backed it up with a brilliant debut LP in 2019. Donnelly writes from the soul and captures the truth of what is going on around her, ranging from relationships and social issues such as woman rights to social-political issues. Her beautiful voice and witty lyricism should carry onto her second studio album and if so, then Stella Donnelly could become a bigger voice in the world. Even with the ambition she shows, this artist is incredibly humble and I’m sure she will carry on writing with such honourable purpose and class.

Remember when the Sheffield lads threw the indie world upside down in 2018? Wow…what a time it was and as time goes on, ‘Tranquility Base..’ shines even better within their impressive catalogue. AM are a rare breed in todays music world, they are respected hugely by the guitar purists and are the little taste for the mainstream listener for when they want to have some good old rock’n’roll. Will it be the rock and the rolling for the bands 7th album though? Will the bucket hat and dark fruits lot need therapy again?
Rihanna

It would be impossible not to put this legend of pop on this list. After ‘Anti’ coming out so long ago and that certain song just about leaving our minds at last, we need more Rihanna people! The artist effortlessly smashed her way through the pop climate of the late 00’s and early 2010’s, giving us music that symbolised the times and also inspired the times. Her voice is truly incredible and her presence is utterly infectious, to see what she will do next will be both frightening and enthralling.
Lewis Capaldi....
Offering us one really decent song that fitted perfectly into our hearts and TikToks. The scotsman has a lot of pressure from a lot of people, to give us a proper record on album number 2. This is the first person on the list that I am not fussed about but extremely curious to see how he gets on, the dude does have some talent, right? You hope that his solid personalty doesn’t become the main point of him being an artist, it would be such a shame that someone who has shown such promise decides that celebrity culture is more important than artistry.
Adele
We are screaming ‘hellllloooo, can you hear us Adele?’! The woman defined a time when ’21’ was released, then went onto writing one of the best Bond songs ever and then did an incredible victory lap with her album ’25’. I do worry that time has moved on and Adele may decide that the pressure of touring could be too much now but people are saying, new music from her is coming. To what degree will she keep her traditional RNB and Soul roots in the 2020’s is something I want to know, will it still fresh enough and be done with the same quality? Im confident about it but only time well tell if it will.
Father John Misty

The unsung modern legend of songwriting is over due another release, Josh Tilman must be itching to put the Papa Misty cape back on? 2017’s ‘Pure Comedy’ kicked off the year in the best possible way, the sobriety of its honesty and quality of music was both captivating and jaw dropping; he even released ‘Gods Father Customer’ not long after and it was utterly brilliant. There are now a lot of successful songs in his back pocket now, if he has able to add to that and offer us insight in a way that he hasn’t before, the sky will be limit for Mr.Tilman.
